What is an Engineer?

The Engineering Context

Engineers are applied scientists, visionaries and solution finders who work in a variety of scientific, technical, humanitarian and sociological fields.

An environmental engineer might create a new water filtration process; a computer systems engineer might design a ground-breaking communications technology; a civil engineer might become an urban planner.

What unites this diverse group of professionals is the ability to envision what could be, the know-how to test ideas using engineering-specific modeling and the technical skills to translate ideas into action.
