with UBC Engineering
Industry research partnerships are integral to UBC Engineering’s
mission. To best serve students, faculty members and the community at large,
the exchange of ideas between the university and industry is imperative
to stay at the leading-edge of research.
UBC Engineering prides itself on strong partnerships with external communities,
including industry, alumni, professional associations, government, health
agencies and other post-secondary institutions. With the goal of maintaining
and building on these partnerships, we offer a number of unique and forward-thinking
programs and services.
Benefits of partnering
UBC Engineering offers a variety of opportunities designed to create connections
between students, faculty and industry representatives to best prepare
for the challenges of tomorrow. Both faculty and students looking to contribute
to and learn from industry, as well as industry representatives seeking
new ideas, technology and opportunities to shape the future work force
benefit by partnering together. By exchanging ideas, information and human
resources, we aim to foster successful, long-term relationships with industry
partners.
Opportunities Available
Below is a partial list of the research partnerships available with Applied
Science. If you have further ideas, please contact the UBC Engineering
Dean’s Office at 604-822-6413 or research@apsc.ubc.ca.
Technology Transfer
Benefit from intellectual property (IP) developed at UBC through patents, licenses and resources. UBC Engineering works with the UBC University-Industry Liaison Office (UILO) to transfer new knowledge and technologies and create new spin-off companies. In an effort to enhance the IP climate for our faculty members and industry partners, the Faculty entered into discussions with UILO during 2006 and 2007 and concluded an understanding in December 2007 with that office. It may be of benefit for faculty members and their industry partners to refer to this Understanding in establishing specific projects and arrangements.
