Standard Timetables (STTs)
Course registration for most years and programs within engineering is done via standard timetables. However, the standard timetables do not contain all the courses a student should take in a particular program and year, so some courses must still be added individually.
The following general rules apply to all Engineering STTs:
- Each STT includes most of the core courses for that year/program/option, with the exceptions listed below. Add missing core courses individually after registering for an STT. Elective courses are not included and must be added individually. Exceptions include:
- Second-, third-, and fourth-year STTs usually do not include core courses given by departments in the Faculty of Science. If you are in one of those years, you should compare your STTs with the courses listed in the Calendar for your year and program, and add missing core courses, for example, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth and Ocean Sciences (formerly Geophysics and Oceanography), Mathematics, Microbiology, Soil Science, and Statistics.
- Second-, third-and fourth-year STTs do not include courses from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. If you are in a program, which requires these courses, add them individually to your STT.
- If you are in third or fourth year of Computer or Electrical Engineering, register on a course-by-course basis.
- You cannot normally register for individual courses unless you have first registered for an STT. However, if you are a second-year student, you should register for individual non-Engineering courses, e.g., Arts or Mathematics courses, before you are notified of the program to which you have been admitted. See Second-year Engineering in the Faculty of Applied Science in the Calendar for more detailed information.
- In the case of multiple STTs (same courses but different section numbers), you may request any STT in the group. You may not get your first choice because the number of places available in each STT is limited.
-
If you wish to modify an STT because of exemptions, deficiencies, etc. (e.g., adding courses from a higher year or from another program), consult a faculty or department advisor before registering. Please note the following:
- You need department or Faculty permission before you change sections of any core course in an STT.
- You can, however, drop core courses (e.g., a course you’ve already taken, or a course for which you’ve been granted advance credit or exemption) or add elective courses.
- Make sure you register in all required courses (for both terms).
- The maximum number of credits in which you may be registered is set within the registration system. If you would like to exceed that limit, you must obtain permission from the Engineering Student Services Office.
