Co-operative Education

Mining Placement

program option

Co-operative education provides students with an opportunity to combine their academic studies with the practical application of their knowledge in 4-month paid work terms. Co-operative education opportunities exist for engineering students in all disciplines through the Engineering Co-operative Education Office, except for the Engineering Physics program, which is handled by the Faculty of Science's Co-operative Education Office.

Students apply for admission into the co-operative education program at the beginning of second year, except for Engineering Physics that requires application at the end of first year. In all cases, the co-operative education option extends the program by one year. International students on a student visa may participate in the co-operative education option because it is a part of their education.

Students in the co-operative education program spend five 4-month work terms in industry over the duration of their programs. Again, Engineering Physics is slightly different, having only four 4-month work terms. Most work-term opportunities are in British Columbia, although students in co-op should be prepared to relocate outside of the lower mainland. For the more adventurous, there are often opportunities in other parts of Canada and internationally
