Academic Concession, Standing Deferred Exams
The complete University policy and regulations pertaining to Academic Concession may be found at http://www.calendar.ubc.ca/vancouver/index.cfm?tree=3,48,0,0
Students in the Faculty of Applied Science must submit a request for academic concession directly to the Engineering Student Services office immediately after a missed examination/s. Requests must be supported by appropriate documentation in order to be approved (refer to the above link for information regarding medical certificates).
Please note that incomplete term requirements due to conflicting responsibilities or unforeseen events should be discussed directly with the instructor/s as soon as a situation arises. Instructors are not required to make allowance that is not satisfactorily accounted for.
Approved requests for special consideration will be denoted by ‘SD’ (Standing Deferred) on the Student Service Centre (SSC). Although this information is entered as soon as possible there is an approval process involved which delays the posting of this information. Failing grades may be visible during this period and removed when the ‘SD’ is posted. Failure to write a deferred examination will result in the original grade being reset.
Students are required to make an online application to write a Standing Deferred exam. The Winter Session deadline is June 15th and the Summer Session deadline is October 15th.
